Waste-to-Energy is live in Australia!
WA is leading the way—and so is Tellus.
We are enabling the conversion of waste into energy through our partnership with Kwinana Energy Recovery. Waste-to-Energy (WtE) produces its own by-products, including in the form of APCr, which, due to the nature of its origin and complex composition, brings its own unique challenges.
Tellus’ capacity and know-how to deal with APCr has enabled the safe start-up of Australia’s first operational WtE plant at Kwinana in Perth. The first load of APCr was delivered to Sandy Ridge late last year, when about 53 tonnes of APCr was safely transferred to Tellus’ onsite siloes.
Now it’s time to get the word out, nationwide.
Last month, thanks to the great work of Michael Bobrowicz and The Waste and Recycling Industry Association of WA, we took the opportunity to share our story with environmental regulators from WA’s Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, Environment Protection Authority South Australia (SA EPA), QLD’s Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation, NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) and NT’s Department of Logistics and Infrastructure, who were all visiting to learn more about this nascent industry and how it can be established across Australia to support the clean energy transition.
The visitors began their day at the Kwinana Energy Recovery plant, before visiting Tellus’ HQ in the Perth CBD for a detailed presentation on the regulatory pathway that has facilitated Waste-to-Energy in WA.
Proponents weighing up energy-from-waste projects in eastern and southern Australia can now do so confident that Tellus can provide a solution. With the capacity to accept APCr from across the continent, we can help companies start up, scale up and clean up.
We’re excited to be playing a key part in a great environmental outcome for WA, turning waste into electricity and safely managing the challenging by-products from this process to provide an end-to-end solution for our clients.
It’s one more way Tellus is supporting Australia’s clean energy transition.
