Our Journey
→ Founded in 2009, Tellus began by identifying sites across Australia for hazardous material storage, focusing on key locations with favourable geological conditions in Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and New South Wales.
→ The Sandy Ridge Facility in Western Australia opened in 2020 to manage and dispose of hazardous materials, following a rigorous nine-year regulatory approval process, including licensing, Public Environmental Review and Native Title agreement with the Marlinyu Ghoorlie.
→ In early 2023, Sandy Ridge received approval to dispose of low-level radioactive waste from anywhere in Australia or its Exclusive Economic Zone, making it the only licensed and operating site in Australia for this purpose.
→ By October 2023, working with the Northern Territory Central Land Council, Tellus secured support from the Titjikala Native Title party for its Chandler project. Our vision is for Chandler to be the world’s first multi-national deep geological repository, driving intergenerational change in the Northern Territory and Titjikala community.
