Sandy Ridge is 100% solar powered during daylight hours

Image shows the solar panel microgrid being built at Sandy Ridge. This grid allows Sandy Ridge to be 100% solar powered during daylight hours

Tellus’ Sandy Ridge facility in remote WA is Australia’s only approved and operating solution for the safe storage and disposal of hazardous chemical and low-level radioactive waste from across Australia.

Given our role in supporting a greener and more circular economy, it’s only fitting that Sandy Ridge is the first Australian mine site 100% running off solar energy during daylight hours. We believe in the importance of the new green energy transition, and beyond our role to clients as a sustainability company, we approach our own operations with sustainability at the forefront.

Designed and delivered by Pacific Energy, the Tellus microgrid has already reduced diesel consumption at Sandy Ridge by almost 500,000 litres.

Our ground-breaking project was recognised earlier this year when our partner Pacific Energy took out NECA WA’s Green Energy Excellence Award for the Sandy Ridge microgrid.

“Our mission is to enable Australia’s clean energy transition,” says Tellus CEO Nate Smith. “Decarbonising our own operations is another way we can fulfil our mission.”
