Tellus’ vision for a world-class deep geological repository in the Northern Territory is one step closer to becoming a reality, as we seek a commercial partner for our Chandler project, about 120km south of Alice Springs.
This week we released a Call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the *Chandler Multi-National Deep Geological Repository (DGR) Project– Phase 1: Strategic Review and Value Improvement Study*.
With Chandler, we’re aiming to challenge convention and deliver a project that raises the bar in every aspect of deep geological repository development and operation.
Upon completion, Chandler will
- Be a world-class repository.
- Be suitable for the safe, permanent disposal of hazardous chemical and low-level radioactive waste from Australia’s international trading partners.
- Enhance our regional leadership as an environmentally sustainable hazardous waste solution.
- Safeguard the clean energy transition.
We aim to deliver the project in genuine partnership with the Titjikala Native Title party of Central Australia, the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which Chandler is sited.
As our CEO Nate Smith wrote in November:
“Gaining the trust and approval of the local Indigenous community was not an optional add-on or a bonus: it was an essential step in bringing Chandler closer to fruition.”
Chandler would put the Territory in the engine room of the clean energy transition for Australia and our region.
We are excited to be searching for a strategic partner who will review all aspects of the proposal, and potentially partner us in its delivery and operation.
