Tellus Continues to Strengthen Leadership with New CEO Appointment

Tellus Continues to Strengthen Leadership with New CEO Appointment

Nate Smith, our Managing Director & CEO, is stepping down at the end of June after seven years at Tellus, including almost six years leading our business. Tellus’ Chief Operating Officer, Anna Dartnell, has been appointed by our Board as his successor and will commence as CEO on 1 July.

It’s been a whirlwind stint. During Nate’s time leading Tellus, we’ve hit some incredible milestones:

– Securing a native title agreement with the Marlinyu Ghoorlie for Sandy Ridge’s expansion to 280,000 tonnes, strengthening the company’s long-term social licence.
– Delivering construction of the Sandy Ridge Facility on time and under budget in 2020.
– Securing a licence for hazardous waste disposal in 2021, and a licence for the permanent disposal of low-level radioactive waste in 2023, enabling a nationally significant expansion of Tellus’ services.
– Achieving the first permanent isolation of radioactive waste by a private company in Australian history in 2024.
– Overseeing 200,000 tonnes of hazardous waste from every State and Territory safely isolated at Sandy Ridge.

And with Anna taking the helm, we’re confident there’s much more to come.

Based in Perth, Anna brings more than 25 years of senior executive experience across Australia’s most demanding operational and commercial environments. She has deep Western Australian resources and infrastructure experience and has maintained a strong local market presence while delivering in roles with national accountability.

Prior to joining Tellus as COO, Anna led a national portfolio of operations as Group Executive Bulk at Aurizon, delivering commercial growth and operational excellence across a large-scale, highly regulated business. She’s previously been recognised as a Telstra Business Women’s Awards finalist and a Business News 40Under40 award winner.

A proud hashtag#WesternAustralian, Anna joins Tellus at an exciting time as we continue to grow our strategic environmental infrastructure platform and expand the services we provide to industry and government. Her appointment further strengthens the capability of our leadership team and positions Tellus well for its next phase of growth.

While our leadership is changing, our strategy isn’t. We remain focused on safe operations, disciplined delivery, strong stakeholder relationships and providing world-class infrastructure and solutions for our customers.

Please join us as we thank Nate for his leadership and congratulate Anna on her appointment.
