When we dispose of hazardous waste, we help to clean up Australia.
When we recycle it, we go one step better and help Australia transition to a green economy.
That’s why we are excited to announce a new Memorandum of Understanding between Tellus and GreenIron, a Swedish startup focused on CO₂ -free reduction of metal oxides to pure metals.
This recycling partnership will see GreenIron working alongside Tellus’ Sandy Ridge Labs , we’ll be transforming challenging materials like mine tailings and red mud into high-quality, recyclable metals.
GreenIron’s pioneering, patented process produces no carbon emissions whatsoever—and the sole waste product is good old-fashioned H2O.
Here’s how it works.
When the hydrogen in GreenIron’s furnace meets the oxygen in metal oxide at the right temperature, hydrogen and oxygen react and form water. The iron oxide in the input material is reduced, yielding the pure metal, and new water is formed.
It’s literally squeezing water out of stone.
Given the proliferation of mining waste in Australia, any opportunity to recycle this material is an important step towards a circular economy.
That’s why our recycling partnership with GreenIron will help us deliver more sustainable solutions for our clients, while supporting Australia’s green economy transition.
