Our first shipment of Kaolin to Japan – Tellus and Sobue Clay deal

A new direction for Tellus, we’ve locked in a deal for a first shipment of top-tier raw kaolin to Japan’s Sobue Clay, a heavyweight in the kaolin and industrial minerals game.

Kaolin is the unsung hero behind everything from fine ceramics to coatings, and our Sandy Ridge facility in WA has some of the best on the planet. Sobue Clay knows quality when they see it, and they’ll be using our premium kaolin to push their advanced manufacturing even further.

Under the agreement, Tellus will supply premium kaolin from its Sandy Ridge facility in Western Australia to support Sobue Clay’s advanced manufacturing and industrial applications. Kaolin, a key industrial mineral used in ceramics, coatings, and specialty applications, is a core product of Tellus’ Sandy Ridge project. With a geologically stable environment and world-class reserves, the Sandy Ridge site ensures a sustainable and consistent supply of high-purity kaolin to meet growing global demand.

“This agreement with Sobue Clay marks a significant milestone for Tellus as we expand our kaolin business and strengthen ties with international markets,” said Nate Smith, CEO of Tellus. “Sobue Clay’s expertise and reputation in the kaolin industry make them an ideal partner for our high-grade kaolin.”

A world leader in the minerals industry

Sobue Clay, known for its extensive experience in refining and processing high performance kaolin, will utilise Tellus’ kaolin in various applications, including advanced manufacturing and specialised industrial uses. The company is also involved in R&D of geopolymer concretes derived from kaolin for specialist industrial applications. The partnership aligns with Tellus’ broader strategy to maximise the value of its mineral resources while continuing to operate a world-class hazardous waste management facility at Sandy Ridge.

Tellus’ dual business model combines long-term hazardous waste storage and mineral resource recovery, positioning the company as a leader in both the environmental and industrial sectors. The kaolin supply agreement with Sobue Clay further demonstrates the company’s commitment to responsible resource utilization and international trade.

This is a significant milestone for us, expanding our kaolin business while continuing to lead in hazardous waste management. Tellus is all about long-term solutions, whether it’s safe, sustainable waste storage or unlocking the value of Australia’s mineral resources.

This deal with Sobue Clay proves we can do both.
